VIDEO TRANSCRIPT
Back in 1989, there was a clinical trial on children with epilepsy, where they were given a modest dose of 400 IU per day of Vitamin E.
What they found were over 60% reductions in the rates of seizures, with half of the study participants having a 90% to 100% reduction.
Then in 2016 another study was performed on adults, also with 400 IU per day of Vitamin E. They also found a significant decrease in the frequency of seizures, and other benefits such as an increased antioxidant capacity, leading to reduced oxidative stress.
There have been other Vitamin E and Epilepsy studies too, which got the same results, and there have also been a number of different studies that show an increase in oxidative stress in epilepsy, and have stated that free radicals act as a pathogen in the disease.
The Vitamin E and Epilepsy connection was further explored in a 2020 study published in the SN Comprehensive Clinical Medicine Journal. They tested the serum vitamin E levels in children with epilepsy, and compared them against a control group. Interestingly, they were almost identical.
Fortunately, they explored it further, and found a huge difference in the Vitamin E to Cholesterol ratio between the epileptic children and the control group, solidly establishing the link between Vitamin E deficiency, and epilepsy.
So, if you have epilepsy, supplementing with Vitamin E is of great importance. But it’s important to note that in these aforementioned studies, while most people had huge reductions in seizures, it did not work for everyone, suggesting that Vitamin E deficiency is not the sole cause of epileptic seizures.
